He doesn't just understand performance pressure. He's felt it.

Why athletes choose Ben

Most sport psychologists understand performance from the outside. Ben played nine seasons of professional AFL football — six with the Brisbane Lions and three with North Melbourne. He knows what it feels like to prepare for a final, to come back from injury, to perform in front of 80,000 people.

That lived experience is what creates immediate trust with athletes. They know Ben has been in the room where it matters. He's not theorising about pressure — he's navigated it at the highest level of Australian sport, and then spent over a decade studying and applying the science behind it.

Physical talent gets you to the level. Mental fitness is what keeps you there — and what separates the ones who perform in big moments from the ones who don't.

Ben has worked across a wide range of sports — including current and former Olympians, AFL and AFLW players, state cricket players, basketballers, golfers and soccer players.

He also has two young adult children who play sport, which provides an even deeper understanding of the young athlete experience is personal as well as professional.

Three ways to work with Ben depending on where you are.

How Ben works with athletes

Ben also has two young adult children who have played sport throughout their lives — which means his understanding of the young athlete experience extends beyond the clinical. He knows what this looks like from the parent's side too.

Most young athletes train their bodies relentlessly. Very few train the one thing that determines how they perform when the pressure is on — their mind.

This online program gives young athletes aged 12–18 the same psychological tools used by elite AFL players, delivered in a format that's practical, accessible and built for how young people actually learn. No jargon. No theory overload. Skills they can use at training, on game day and in life.
